If your school runs on Microsoft 365, Outlook is probably where your classes, meetings and email already live. Adding your Canvas due dates there takes a couple of minutes.
Step 1: Copy your Canvas Calendar Feed link
- Open Canvas in a browser and click Calendar.
- Click Calendar Feed at the bottom right.
- Copy the link. It ends in
.ics.
More detail: how to find your Canvas Calendar Feed link.
Step 2: Add it to Outlook
Outlook on the web (outlook.com or Microsoft 365)
- Open Outlook and go to Calendar.
- Click Add calendar.
- Choose Subscribe from web.
- Paste the Canvas link, give it a name like "Canvas", pick a color and click Import.
New Outlook for Windows
It works the same way as the web version: Calendar > Add calendar > Subscribe from web.
Classic Outlook for Windows
- Go to Calendar.
- On the Home tab, choose Add Calendar > From Internet.
- Paste the link and click OK, then Yes.
Outlook for Mac
Add the calendar on Outlook on the web with the steps above. Because it's saved to your account, it appears in Outlook for Mac and the Outlook phone app.
How often does Outlook update it?
Outlook checks subscribed calendars on its own schedule, often every few hours. New assignments won't appear the moment a teacher posts them. If something looks missing, check Canvas directly.
If it doesn't work
- "Couldn't import": make sure you copied the full link starting with
https://. Some schools block outside calendar subscriptions on school accounts. Try a personal Outlook.com account. - Duplicate calendars: remove extras under My calendars.
- Wrong times: set your time zone in Canvas (Account > Settings) and in Outlook settings.
Seeing it isn't the same as getting it done
A calendar shows you what's due, but you can't check assignments off, and a busy week turns into a wall of events. lum9a reads the same Canvas link and turns it into one checklist with reminders, plus a tiny pixel world that grows as you finish things. Free.
