How to Find Your Canvas Calendar Feed Link (Step by Step)

Your Canvas Calendar Feed link lets other apps read your assignments and due dates. Here is exactly where to find it and what to do with it.

By the lum9a team · 3 min read

The Canvas Calendar Feed is a private link that contains your assignments and events from every course. Paste it into a calendar or to-do app and your due dates stay up to date without you copying anything.

Find the link on a computer

  1. Log in to Canvas in a web browser.
  2. Click Calendar in the left menu.
  3. At the bottom right of the page, click Calendar Feed.
  4. A box opens with a long web address. Click into it and copy the whole thing.

The link usually ends in .ics. That's normal: it's the standard file type calendars use.

Can't find it on your phone?

The Canvas mobile app doesn't show the Calendar Feed link. Open Canvas in your phone's browser instead (for example, Safari or Chrome), request the desktop site if needed, and follow the same steps. It's easiest on a laptop, and you only need to do it once.

What's in the feed

Canvas's own guide says the feed includes:

  • Assignments and events from all your Canvas calendars.
  • Items up to a year ahead, and from the last 30 days.

It doesn't include To Do items that have no date. If you join a new course mid-semester, Canvas recommends re-adding the feed so the new class appears.

Keep the link private

Anyone with your feed link can see your assignment names and due dates. They can't log in to Canvas or see grades, but don't post it publicly.

Troubleshooting

I don't see a Calendar Feed link

Make sure you're on the Calendar page, not the Dashboard, and scroll to the very bottom of the right-hand column. On a small laptop screen the link can sit below the list of course calendars. If you're on a phone, switch to the desktop version of the site.

The link doesn't work when I click it

That's expected in most browsers. The link isn't a web page, it's a calendar file that another app reads. Clicking it may download a .ics file. Instead of opening it, copy the address and paste it into the app you want to use.

Some classes are missing

The feed only includes courses that are published and that you're enrolled in. If you added a class late, Canvas suggests re-adding the feed. Also check that the missing course actually has assignments with due dates.

An assignment shows the wrong time

Canvas stores times in your account's time zone. Check Account, then Settings, and confirm your time zone is right, especially if you're studying away from home.

Is it safe to use?

The feed is read-only. Apps that use it can read assignment names, course names and dates, but they can't submit work, see grades, or change anything in Canvas. If you ever want to stop an app from reading it, remove the link from that app. If your link has been shared publicly by accident, contact your school's Canvas help desk to ask about resetting it.
